Schaefer's Gardens Goes Hi Tech Green!
To help offset our energy use and in an effort to reduce our impact on the environment. Schaefer's Gardens is proud to announce that our website hosting services are powered by 100% wind energy.
Measuring the Environmental Impact
By using wind powered hosting we are helping prevent the release of 2,660 metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere each year. As a result, our hosting company’s energy efficiency is equivalent to planting approximately 2,390 acres of trees, not driving 6.1 million miles, or removing 510 cars from the road.

Bring your green thumb and your camera, gardeners get an early start by attending a free open house at Schaefer's Gardens, a family owned and operated wholesale greenhouse facility that has been in operation for 75 years. The family will open the 1.5 acre greenhouses for viewing and free educational gardening classes on Sunday April 26th, 2009 between 12pm-4pm. Schaefer's is located in Triangle, NY only 20 minutes from Binghamton on South Street off of Route 206.
Classes include:
12:30pm Neil Mattson, Cornell University-Fertilization of Flower and Vegetable Gardens
1:00pm Mary Matwey, CCE Master Gardener-Rock Gardening
1:30pm Susan McLain, CCE Master Gardener-Container Gardening on a Budget
2:00pm Elizabeth Lamb, Cornell University- Pest Management
2:30pm Tim Ballantyne, Ballantyne Gardens- Great Vegetable Gardens
The Schaefer family continues to try new varieties and experiment to grow "the best of the best". The greenhouse operations use and support environmentally friendly products like green pots such as rice pots, which break down after 2 years, wheat pots that break down after 1 year and compostable pots.
Various local Horticulture business representatives will be on hand through out the greenhouse to answer your gardening questions.
Refreshments available, all proceeds to benefit the local Celebration of Hope, American Cancer Society.
